The Library of Arabic Literature Editorial Board will be heading to Abu Dhabi next week (as we do every December) for our semi-annual meeting, and as part of our activities, we are delighted to announce a public lecture in Abu Dhabi by Executive Editor James Montgomery, the Sir Thomas Adams Professor of Arabic at the University of Cambridge. Titled “Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Falcons, and Abbasid Hunting Poetry,” Montgomery’s lecture takes as its starting point a much-loved poem by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan about hunting with a young falcon and offers a survey of Arabic hunting poetry from the Abbasid era. The lecture will be held Tuesday, December 10, 6:30-8PM, at the Intercontinental Hotel Auditorium. You can register here.

If you are in Abu Dhabi next week, we’d love to have you join us!

That lecture is in addition to our public event, “Library of Arabic Literature: Championing a Heritage,” at Kinokuniya Bookstore in Dubai on December 12.
